Training programs and classes are based on the Gandhian values of eradication of untouchability, sustainable development, and village sanitation. ESI is based at the roots and therefore we emphasize interaction with the population to be served, structuring classes in a way that emphasizes practical learning in the field. Whether through interacting with the community and observing their way of life, or going to motivate and serve the populous, the participants learn from the environment in which they will be living and use the resources around them to get a holistic view of the developing world and its primary issues. The structure and fluidity of the site also encourages open interaction, discussion, and participation with all peoples and the environment, which we hold to be a primary means of education.
